According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson S&W made heavy barrelled Model 64s in .357 Magnum for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in 1972. You can either post your number, and some kind soul will look it up in their copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, or you can shell out the 25 bucks or so, and buy your own copy. My copy of the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" has no entry for the "BRM" prefix, but it seems that the gun was produced after August 1994, based on what is listed. I'm sorry but that's all I can find. I don't have mine handy to look it up but it has serial numbers by year of production in the back. The guns had no special markings to indicate OHP use. Nickel is generally more money due to being less common. I believe you can find the answer to your question in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition. I have a 686-4 with the serial number BRMxxxx. Smith & Wesson, the American manufacturer, learned this lesson the hard way. You did well to get a nickel gun for less than the cost of a blued model. Supica/Nahas' superb book, Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition just refers to it as the Smith & Wesson .32 Semi-automatic Pistol. Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd (Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson) (p. Smith & Wesson 38 S&W Special CTG In 2006 the Standard catalog of S&W gave the following values: ANIB $1500, Excellent condition $850, very Good $550, Good $385, Fair $250, Poor $125.
